If you live in Magnolia or anywhere in Columbia County and you have started looking at manufactured homes, you have probably seen the Jessup name on a lot of floor plans. Many of the homes on the lot and online at El Dorado Home Center are built by Jessup Housing. Knowing who builds your home, where it is built and how the different series compare makes it easier to choose, so here is a quick introduction to the factory behind many of the homes El Dorado Home Center sells.

Who Jessup Housing is

Jessup Housing builds manufactured homes in Waco, Texas. The Manufactured Housing Institute's plant list, the industry's national directory of home plants, shows two Jessup Housing plants in Waco: Jessup Housing and Jessup Housing #2. Jessup's manufacturer listing gives its address as 1001 W Loop 340 in Waco and says its homes are built to meet or exceed HUD standards. Building in a factory also changes the timeline. As El Dorado Home Center points out on its own website, its homes are built in a controlled environment, so weather delays are reduced compared with building on site.

The two Jessup series you will see most

El Dorado Home Center's catalog leans on two Jessup lines: the Elite series and the Promotional series.

The Elite series

The Elite series runs from roomy single wides up to large multi-section homes. At the smaller end, the Jackson, Lincoln, Patton and Wilson are all 3-bedroom, 2-bath single wides with 1,191 square feet in a 16' x 76' footprint, so you can compare four different layouts at the same size. The Promotional series

If you want something simpler and smaller, the Promotional series is worth a look. The Molly, a home shoppers on the El Dorado Home Center site look at often, has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths in 940 square feet with a 16' x 60' footprint. Special Offers right now

A number of homes in the El Dorado Home Center catalog currently carry a "Special Offer" tag, including the Roosevelt, Eisenhower and Madison from the Jessup Elite series. The site does not list prices or offer details online, so call or stop by to ask what the offer is on the home you like and how long it runs.

What to look for in a Jessup home

El Dorado Home Center highlights features buyers ask about most: modern kitchens with large islands and energy-efficient appliances, garden tubs or walk-in showers, and open-concept designs. When you walk through a Jessup model, take a close look at the kitchen layout, the primary bath, and how the living space flows, and compare a few floor plans at the same size before you decide. Each home's page lists its bedrooms, baths, square footage and dimensions, which makes side-by-side comparisons easy.

Not just Jessup
